Man United can’t sign striker in January due to FFP – Ten Hag
January 26, 2024
According to Erik ten Hag, Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues prevent Manchester United from signing a striker during the January transfer window.
After Anthony Martial’s 10-week absence due to groin surgery, Ten Hag is down to simply Rasmus Højlund as his recognized striker.
The Dutch manager stated that although he thought about adding a new forward this month, it will not be feasible to expand the team.
At a press conference on Friday, Ten Hag stated, “I looked, but there is no space.”
“There isn’t enough room on FFP to address the dearth of strikers in the lineup. Naturally, Rashford is a striker, and we also have some other talented
substitutes. Anthony [Martial] is clearly gone for a few months, which leaves a void in our team.
Ten Hag, meantime, has declared that Altay Bayindir, the keeper, will play in his first FA Cup match on Sunday against Newport County.
Despite not playing since leaving Fenerbahce in the summer, Bayindir will finally face André Onana while representing Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite being benched during Cameroon’s 3 to 2 victory over Gambia, Onana will remain in the team after they advanced to the knockout stages by placing second in Group C, behind Senegal.
“He [Bayindir] will be in goal [against Newport],” Ten Hag declared.
“He waits for his opportunity, but he is a seasoned player who handled pressure well when playing for a major Turkish club. “We were persuaded, thus Sunday is something we are excited about. This is Altay’s moment, and he has been waiting for it.”
